SMS API for Israel: Send SMS from Your Website, App or Backend

The Global SMS API is an SMS gateway API for sending text messages to Israeli mobile numbers from any website, app, CRM or backend service. It offers a REST API (JSON and XML), a SOAP web service and a simple HTTP GET/POST interface, connects directly to Israeli mobile carriers, and is included at no extra charge – you pay only for the messages you send.

Delivery reports
Per-message status (delivered, failed, pending) retrieved through the API.
Inbound SMS
Replies to a virtual number can be forwarded to a URL on your system.
Security
HTTPS (SSL/TLS) and optional IP whitelisting.
Cost
API access free; prepaid message packages in Israeli shekels, no monthly fee. See the price list.

How sending SMS through the API works

  1. Open an account and generate an API key in the dashboard.
  2. Call the send endpoint from your server with the API key, the sender ID, the recipient numbers and the message text.
  3. The gateway routes the message directly to the recipient's Israeli mobile carrier. Operational and OTP traffic gets top-priority routing.
  4. Check the delivery report through the API to see whether each message reached the handset.

Most developers have a first message working within minutes. Full documentation and ready-to-use samples are available in your account right after sign-up.

Code samples

These are simplified examples that show the shape of a request. The exact endpoint, field names and response format are in the full documentation, available in your account after sign-up.

cURL

curl -X POST "https://api.globalsms.co.il/v1/send-sms" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json; charset=utf-8" \
  -d '{
    "apiKey": "YOUR_API_KEY",
    "sender": "MyBrand",
    "recipients": "0501234567,0521234567",
    "message": "Your order #1042 has shipped."
  }'

PHP

<?php
$payload = json_encode([
    'apiKey'     => 'YOUR_API_KEY',
    'sender'     => 'MyBrand',
    'recipients' => '0501234567',
    'message' => 'Your order #1042 has shipped.',
]);

$ch = curl_init('https://api.globalsms.co.il/v1/send-sms');
curl_setopt_array($ch, [
    CURLOPT_POST           => true,
    CURLOPT_HTTPHEADER     => ['Content-Type: application/json; charset=utf-8'],
    CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS     => $payload,
    CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER => true,
]);
$response = curl_exec($ch);
curl_close($ch);
echo $response;

Python

import requests

resp = requests.post(
    "https://api.globalsms.co.il/v1/send-sms",
    json={
        "apiKey": "YOUR_API_KEY",
        "sender": "MyBrand",
        "recipients": "0501234567",
        "message": "Your order #1042 has shipped.",
    },
    timeout=10,
)
print(resp.status_code, resp.text)

Node.js

const res = await fetch("https://api.globalsms.co.il/v1/send-sms", {
  method: "POST",
  headers: { "Content-Type": "application/json; charset=utf-8" },
  body: JSON.stringify({
    apiKey: process.env.GLOBALSMS_API_KEY,
    sender: "MyBrand",
    recipients: "0501234567",
    message: "Your order #1042 has shipped."
  })
});
console.log(res.status, await res.text());

C# / .NET

using var client = new HttpClient();
var payload = new {
    apiKey = "YOUR_API_KEY",
    sender = "MyBrand",
    recipients = "0501234567",
    message = "Your order #1042 has shipped."
};
var content = new StringContent(
    System.Text.Json.JsonSerializer.Serialize(payload),
    System.Text.Encoding.UTF8, "application/json");
var response = await client.PostAsync("https://api.globalsms.co.il/v1/send-sms", content);
Console.WriteLine(await response.Content.ReadAsStringAsync());

Keep the API key on your server or in an environment variable. Never put it in browser or mobile app code.

Phone numbers, Hebrew text and message length

  • Number format: the samples use the local 05X format (0501234567). If your data is stored in E.164 (+972501234567), replace +972 with 0 before sending. See the Israeli phone number format guide for prefixes and a validation pattern.
  • Clean lists first: the free Israeli phone number cleaner normalizes formats and removes duplicates and invalid numbers.
  • Encoding: send text as UTF-8. Hebrew and emoji switch the message to Unicode.
  • Length: a standard Unicode SMS holds 70 characters. On Global SMS, one Hebrew SMS unit holds up to 201 characters and is shown to the recipient as one message. Check length with the SMS character counter.

Delivery reports and inbound messages

A successful API response means the message was accepted for sending, not that it reached the phone. To know what happened, retrieve the delivery report (DLR) for the message through the API. Typical statuses are delivered, failed and pending. For OTP flows, poll at short intervals so your app can offer a resend quickly if delivery fails.

Replies from customers work differently: when you send from a virtual number, incoming messages can be pushed by webhook to a URL on your system, shown in the dashboard and exported to Excel.

Security and reliability

  • All API traffic runs over HTTPS (SSL/TLS).
  • Optional IP whitelisting, so only your servers can use your key.
  • Servers hosted in secure data centers in Israel, with redundancy and 24/7 monitoring.
  • Operational and OTP messages are routed separately from bulk marketing traffic, with top priority.

AI app builders and no-code automation

Because the API is a standard HTTPS endpoint, it works from apps built with AI app builders such as Base44, Lovable, v0, Bolt.new, Replit and Cursor, from AI agents built with LangChain or Flowise, and from automation platforms such as Zapier, Make and n8n. Add an HTTP request step, pass the API key, the phone number and the message, and the app can send SMS. See SMS integrations for Zapier, Google Sheets, CRM and email-to-SMS options.

API pricing

There is no charge for API access and no monthly subscription. You buy a prepaid SMS package in Israeli shekels and the balance does not expire. Our per-message prices for Israeli numbers are lower than those of international providers such as Twilio. See the current price list, or read the Twilio alternative comparison.
